SPECIAL REPORT: World Machine Tool Review
The list of countries feeding the global demand for machine tools is growing and changing. The next machine you purchase may well have been built in a country you don't immediately associate with manufacturing technology. Modern Machine Shop editors visited two such countries in 1998, the Czech Republic and Spain. In both nations, machine tool builders are positioning themselves to win a larger share of not just the world market, but the U.S. market in particular.

Metalworking Insiders' Report - is a biweekly newsletter that covers the news and developments related to the business side of the capital-equipment industry. Its focus is on the production, equipment, building and distribution industry that, in turn, serves many manufacturing industries.

Of course, there are other excellent sources of metalworking- and machine tool-related data. Below are links to some we recommend.

AMT-The Association For Manufacturing Technology. Select the link to "Publications" off of their main page and you'll find it. The Economic Handbook includes information on the world machine tool industry, the national and world economies, employment, machine tool orders and shipments, machine tools in use, and the financial condition of the industry. It's compiled from dozens of domestic and foreign sources, and is one of the most comprehensive collections of data on the machine tool and related industries available anywhere in the world. Both product-specific and country-specific data are included, and information about capital equipment purchases is broken out for five major consuming industries.

Also, AMT publishes numerous publications for the machine tool and metalworking industries.
