Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz unit has released a teaser sketch of the next-generation Sprinter commercial van that it plans to launch next year.

Based on the rendering, the redesigned model will be sleeker than the current Sprinter and feature design cues borrowed from last year’s Vision Van concept. Mercedes describes the new model’s styling, which features thin headlights and a revamped grille and front fascia, as “distinctive” and “athletic.”

The carmaker promises to equip the Sprinter with a host of driver-assist systems and other advanced technologies, including the latest telematics to enhance fleet management. The range of variants also will be “considerably extended” to accommodate user needs.

Mercedes will produce the van in Germany for most markets and at a new plant in Charleston, S.C., for the North American market. Sales are due to start early next year in Europe and elsewhere shortly thereafter.
