Peter Zelinski is the editor-in-chief and founding editor of Additive Manufacturing Media, which for over 10 years has reported on the advance of industrial 3D printing technology and its use in production, along with the ways it is changing part design, applications of materials and the organization of manufacturing enterprises. Zelinski is regularly seen on The Cool Parts Show, the video series he co-created on 3D printing for part production, which has been recognized with an award for Best Use of Video in niche media. He is also known for his coverage of machine shops and CNC machining technology, topics he has written about for Modern Machine Shop for over 25 years. He served as this brand’s editor-in-chief from 2016 to 2023, and his column, “The Z Axis,” ran in Modern Machine Shop from 2000 to 2024. A podcaster, Zelinski appears regularly with Additive Manufacturing Media colleagues in AM Radio, and he also co-hosted a limited-run sister podcast, Made in the USA. In 2020, he was co-host of the U.S. Air Force’s week-long event aimed at manufacturing for military readiness and sustainment, the Advanced Manufacturing Olympics. For Additive Manufacturing Media and Modern Machine Shop parent company Gardner Business Media, Zelinski serves as Director of Editorial, working with all the company’s content creators on their work covering production technology in metalworking, plastics processing and composites. Zelinski holds a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Cincinnati.
Brent Donaldson is Editor-in-Chief for Modern Machine Shop, where he is oversees the brand’s writing staff as well as day-to-day management of editorial operations. Brent also serves as a columnist and feature writer and reports regularly about his travels to machine shops, trade shows and conferences around the country and internationally. Brent is also co-host, producer and editor of Modern Machine Shop’s documentary-style podcast, “Made in the USA.”
Before joining Gardner, Brent was editor-in-chief of Northern Kentucky University Magazine — the same university from which he received his journalism degree in 2005. Brent previously served as associate editor for Cincinnati Magazine, and is the recipient of two Ohio Excellence in Journalism awards for feature news writing, Cincinnati Society of Professional Journalists awards, and more than 40 individual awards from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education for writing and editorial.
Fun fact: Brent was the last journalist ever to interview Evel Knievel.
Derek Korn was named Production Machining’s Editor-in-Chief in 2020. Prior to that, he spent 16 years writing for Modern Machine Shop magazine and seven years with an industrial public relations company. He says visiting CNC machine shops to write about how they leverage new technology and processes to their advantage is the most enjoyable part of his job. In this role, he gets to help guide the brand as it focuses on helping niche machining businesses — many of which perform high-precision, high-volume CNC turning work — become more efficient operations. His mechanical engineering technology degree from the University of Cincinnati provides a firm foundation for understanding manufacturing technology so that he can explain its benefits to owners and managers of precision machining operations.
