Audi e-tron Is Electric and Safe

The 2019 Audi e-tron is an impressive electric vehicle (and the people in Ingolstadt are probably scratching their heads wondering why the Mustang Mach-E got tremendous amounts of coverage while the e-tron, at its launch, got its share, but certainly nothing like that which the folks from Dearborn racked up), and now there is another reason why there is goodness, based on third-party verification:

It has received a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s New Car Assessment Program (NCAP).

Which means that the crossover handled frontal, side and rollover tests quite well.

IIHS Already

It had previously achieved a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Institute for Insurance Highway Safety (IIHS), which is as good as it gets. And, notably, it was the first battery electric vehicle to achieve that rating.

Protecting Other People

While knowing that one is comparatively safe within the vehicle, it is also notable that there is tech on the e-tron that helps provide some protection for those outside of it: there is a package, “pre sense front,” that uses front-mounted cameras that are tied into the standard automatic emergency braking system such that braking can be initiated at up to 52 mph should pedestrians or bicyclists be detected in front of the vehicle and it seems as though no action is being taken. What’s more, should the e-tron be traveling at 35 mph or less and someone is detected, the vehicle can be brought to a complete stop.

Realize that the vehicle has a curb weight of 5,754 pounds, so that is a lot of mass to bring to a stop.

But as the photo below shows, it is handsome mass by absolutely any measure, whatsoever.
