Bob Thomas, CEO of Nissan Motor Corp.'s U.S. operations between 1993 and 1997, died last week in Hawaii after a brief illness, Automotive News reports. He was 69.

Thomas spent a decade in sales with Ford Motor Co.'s Lincoln-Mercury unit before joining Nissan in 1982. While there, he pushed for new products, including fullsize pickup trucks.

After leaving the Japanese carmaker, he joined the then-startup AutoNation dealership chain. Later he served as CEO of Edmunds.com, the online auto data service.
