Ford Motor Co. is recalling about 342,300 of its 1998-2003 Ford Windstar minivans in North America to revisit an earlier attempt to strengthen a rear axle that could corrode and break.
A previous recall in 2010 installed an axle reinforcement bracket. But Ford says some of those parts may have been incorrectly installed. The company reports a "small number" of crashes but no injuries that may be linked to the issue.
The often-recalled Windstar was the target of another campaign in 2011 to repair underbody brackets and body mounts in 525,000 models sold in cold-weather regions. Ford said road salt could corrode the steering shaft and/or rear control arm.
