Santa Clara, Calif-based Marvell Semiconductor Inc. is introducing what the company describes as the industry’s first secure automotive gigabit Ethernet switch.

The switch employs “deep packet inspection” and “boot” functionality at the foundational hardware level to prevent malicious attacks and compromises to data streamed into and out of a vehicle, according to the company. Advanced blacklisting and whitelisting techniques also are used to prevent unauthorized third-party intervention.

The switch supports 100Mbps and 1Gbps interfaces with five integrated physical interfaces. Marvell launched the first automotive gigabit Ethernet transceiver in 2015 to accommodate high-speed video camera imaging and other high-capacity data transfer needed for next-generation infotainment systems and automated and connected vehicle technologies.
