MG to Unveil Crossover Concept in Beijing

Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp.’s MG brand will take the wraps off its X-Motion concept car at the Beijing auto show later this month.

The concept is expected to preview a future MG SUV/crossover, which likely will share a platform and components with SAIC’s Roewe RXE crossover. That vehicle is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 330 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque.

A production version of the X-Motion would be positioned above MG’s current ZS and GS crossovers. As with those models, sales of the X-Motion likely would start in China before rolling out to select international markets.

SAIC purchased the MG and Rover (since renamed Roewe) brands from the U.K.’s defunct MG Rover Group in 2007. The new models continue to be designed in England but are produced in China.
