Media reports say the driver of a Tesla S sedan traveling 65 mph hit a fire truck parked on the side of Interstate 405 in Culver City. There were no serious injuries.

The Tesla driver had twice the legal blood alcohol content and told police afterwards that the car, not he, was driving, according to The Washington Post. The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board says it will begin an investigation today that focuses on the driver’s actions and the vehicle’s performance.

Tesla’s Autopilot feature combines adaptive cruise control with robotic steering. The system can function automatically under some conditions. But Tesla warns owners that the feature is not capable of truly autonomous driving and requires constant monitoring by the driver.
