Volkswagen AG’s Audi unit will take the wraps off the next-generation RS6 Avant all-wheel-drive performance wagon at next month’s Frankfurt auto show.

Built on VW’s second-generation MLB platform, the 2020 wagon is about 175 lbs lighter than the previous RS6 Avant, which was discontinued last year. The new model also gets improved aerodynamics and more prominent taillights.

Power will come from a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine (shared with the Lamborghini Urus crossover vehicle and Porsche Panamera Turbo sport sedan) that is expected to generate 605 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. The previous RS6’s V-8 makes 552 hp and 553 lb-ft.

The twin-turbo engine will be mated with an 8-speed automatic transmission and torque converter. Audi says the drivetrain will propel the sporty wagon from zero to 62 mph in 3.6 seconds on its way to a top speed of 193 mph.

The new wagon will be built at Audi’s Neckarsulm, Germany, plant. A hybrid variant of the RS6 also is said to be in the works.
