Audi plans to join a BMW-Daimler partnership announced in February to develop advanced control systems for self-driving vehicles, Wirtschaftswoche reports.

The weekly magazine says Audi will confirm the move during the Frankfurt auto show in early September.

BMW and Daimler set up their alliance to reduce development costs, encourage innovation and move new technologies into the market more quickly.

Both companies have said they plan to introduce Level 3 autonomy systems, which enable automated driving under certain conditions, within a few years.
