Ford Motor Co. Chairman Bill Ford reveals he met with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump a few months ago to discuss Trump’s “infuriating” comments about the company’s activities in Mexico.
Ford told the Economic Club of Washington he asked for the meeting over frustration that Trump was ignoring Ford’s investments, expansion and jobs growth in the U.S. The carmaker also has asserted that it makes more vehicles in the U.S. than any other producer.
Ford says he found Trump “thoughtful,” said the candidate asked good questions and added that Trump "certainly knows the facts.” Ford didn’t say whether he was successful in swaying Trump’s view that carmakers must repatriate jobs to the U.S.
