BMW AG is developing an all-electric version of its next-generation 1 Series sedan.

The all-new model will be launched by about 2021, Auto Express reports. Robert Irlinger, who heads the company’s “i” sub-brand for electric cars, says the tiny EV could include single and dual electric motor setups.
The redesigned 1 Series will ride on a new flexible front-wheel-drive architecture that can support a variety of conventional and electrified powertrains. Styling will be virtually identical to the conventionally powered 1 Series, according to Irlinger.
BMW previously has said that it will offer a dozen EVs and 13 hybrid vehicles by 2023, starting with next year’s iX3 SUV/crossover.
