Borgward Opens Silicon Valley Facility

Germany boutique carmaker Borgward Group AG has opened an American headquarters and research and development center in Sunnyvale, Calif.

Borgward, which was founded in 1919, has sold more than 100,000 electrified and conventionally powered vehicles in 20 countries since it was relaunched in 2015. The company aims to begin sales in the U.S. within three years.

At a conference this week in San Francisco, Borgward also announced a new safety technology. The system, which is expected to bow early next decade, uses artificial intelligence to predict risky behaviors of other motorists and pedestrians.
