Bosch, Mahle Seek Buyer for Turbocharger JV

Robert Bosch GmbH and the Mahle GmbH are putting their joint venture, Bosch Mahle Turbo Systems, up for sale.

The partners didn’t provide a timeline to find a prospective buyer.

Formed in 2008, Bosch Mahle Turbo develops and produces turbochargers for diesel and gasoline-powered passenger and commercial vehicles. The company, which has about 1,400 employees at facilities in Austria, China and Germany, recently developed a variable-turbine geometry for exhaust gas turbochargers.

Despite increasing demand for turbochargers worldwide, the partners say the joint venture is too small to compete against larger competitors such as BorgWarner, Honeywell and IHI. The parent companies plan to invest in their core businesses rather than trying to grow the turbocharger venture.
