Robert Bosch GmbH has unveiled a 3D effect for digital displays in cars that the company says can convey information to drivers faster and more precisely.
The system uses a passive 3D technology that doesn’t use eye tracking or require users to wear special glasses, according to the supplier. Bosch didn’t say when it might commercialize the technology.
The display’s depth of field allows drivers to quickly grasp important visual, such as alerts and driver assistance features. Images that convey urgent messages seem to jump out of the display.
The 3D effect could be used with camera displays to show the distance between the host vehicle and other objects when maneuvering into parking spots. Bosch envisions the technology also being applied to navigation systems, to highlight landmarks and provide spatial depth that helps drivers know exactly where their vehicles need to turn.
