General Motors Co.’s Cadillac unit has unveiled the V-badged performance version of its all-new CT4 subcompact sedan.

The base CT4, which replaces the ATS in Caddy’s lineup, will be presented next month. That version, and the sportier CT4-V (pictured), will go on sale early next year.

Both models share a rear-wheel-drive platform and styling cues with the larger CT5 sedan that debuted in April at the New York auto show. The 2020 CT5 succeeds the outgoing CTS midsize sedan.

The CT4-V will be powered by a turbocharged 2.7-liter 4-cylinder engine that generates 320 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, according to preliminary estimates. The engine will be mated with a 10-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is optional.

Power is down considerably from the 464 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque generated by the ATS-V’s twin-turbo 3.6-liter V-6. But GM President Mark Reuss hints that the CT4 eventually will add a more powerful offering, dubbed Blackwing.

The CT5-V, which also was unveiled this week in Detroit, is fitted with a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 that makes 355 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. This is dwarfed by the 640 hp and 630 lb-ft produced by the CTS-V's massive 6.2-liter supercharged V-8. A more potent version of the CT5 also is said to be in the works.

Several performance features are available in both the CT4-V and CT5-V. These include Cadillac’s Magnetic Ride Control active shock system, limited-slip differential and Brembo brakes. The carmaker’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system will be optional.
