General Motors Co.’s Cadillac arm took the wraps off the all-new XT6 crossover vehicle on Sunday ahead of this week’s Detroit auto show.

Launching this summer, the 2020 model sits between the Escalade fullsize SUV and XT5 midsize crossover in Caddy’s lineup. The three-row XT6 shares a unibody front-wheel-drive platform with the two-row XT5.

The new crossover sits on a 113-inch wheelbase and stretches 197 inches from bumper to bumper. Thanks to clever packaging, the XT6 has more rear legroom than the 116-inch wheelbase Escalade, according to GM.

Borrowing styling cues with the 2016 Escala concept vehicle, the XT6 features an upright shield-shaped grille, angular LED headlights and thin LED running lights. Other highlights include bold shoulder lines and Cadillac’s boomerang-shaped taillights—similar to those used in the CT6 sedan—that extend into the hatch.

Power comes from a 3.6-liter V-6 engine that makes an estimated 310 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The optional all-wheel-drive system can send 100% of torque to either rear wheel as needed.

Standard safety features include blind-spot assist, automatic emergency braking, automatic windshield wipers and lane-keep assist. Among the available options are adaptive cruise control, head-up display, rearview camera and parking assist.

The interior gets an updated version of the Cadillac User Experience (CUE) infotainment system with touchscreen and a rotary dial controller. Other goodies include a host of high-end materials and a panoramic two-pane sunroof.

The XT6 will compete against the Audi Q7, Lincoln Aviator and Volvo XC90 crossovers. Production will be handled by GM’s plant in Spring Hill, Tenn.
