Demand for new cars in Vietnam grew 35% to 113,200 units in the first half of 2019, says the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Assn. The overall vehicle market rose 21% to 154,300 cars, trucks and buses.

Imported cars in January-June multiplied more than fivefold to 77,800 units, accounting for more than two-thirds of the market, according to the country’s Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Full-year car sales in Vietnam rose 6% to 288,600 units in 2018. VAMA says deliveries in 2018 of locally made cars climbed 11%, while imported car sales declined 6%.
