Chrysler Group LLC plans to invest $63 million to launch an advanced higher-speed press line at its stamping plant in Warren, Mich., at the end of 2015.
Chrysler Group LLC plans to invest $63 million to launch an advanced higher-speed press line at its stamping plant in Warren, Mich., at the end of 2015.
The new technology, called a servo tandem press line, is simpler and more reliable than conventional presses. It also boosts output while reducing energy consumption. The speed of the press's servo-controlled ram is 100% programmable, unlike mechanical systems that work at a fixed speed.
Chrysler says the system will hike output at the Warren facility by about 3.6 million parts per year. The factory currently produces 80 million fenders, hoods, roofs, liftgates, floor pans and side apertures annually.
