China’s Ideal TeamVenture, which purchased De Tomaso Automobili in 2015, plans to relaunch the famed Italian brand with a new model that will be unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in England on July 4.
Code-named Project P, the ITV concept car is expected to be a modern take on the De Tomaso Pantera sports car that was sold from 1971 to 1993. A photo of a heavily camouflaged Project P was released this week. De Tomaso says it is working with unnamed technical partners on the vehicle.
The original Pantera was powered by a Ford-sourced 5.8-liter V-8 engine. In the U.S., De Tomaso sold the car through Ford’s Lincoln Mercury dealerships.
De Tomaso was founded in 1959 by racecar driver Alejandro De Tomaso. The company, which briefly owned Maserati, filed for bankruptcy in 2004 and again in 2012.
ITV also owns Germany’s Apollo Automobil GmbH (formerly Gumpert GmbH) and launched the V-12-powered Apollo Intensa Emozione supercar.
