Atlanta-based DeltaWing Technology Group is developing a new GT race car based on the dramatically wedged design unveiled three years ago at the Le Mans 24 Hours race.

DeltaWing cars have fuel-dragster-like shapes with closely spaced front wheels and a conventional rear track. A rear-mounted engine powers the rear wheels. The company, led by racing legend Don Panzo, says its design results in cars that are 35% lighter and more efficient than conventional architectures.

Last May the company released a drawing that showed how its needle-nosed car might look like as a four-passenger car. DeltaWing is still looking for a partner to build the car. In the meantime, it expects to complete the DeltaWing GT race car later this year. The company describes the new car as a major step toward finalizing a street-legal two-passenger sports car.

DeltaWing developers also are building two- and four-seat DeltaWing prototypes for testing and evaluation.
