Sales of the compact car, which replaces the ATS in Caddy’s lineup, will begin this autumn. Cadillac unveiled the range-topping CT4-V performance model in May.
Sharing a rear-wheel-drive platform and styling cues with the larger CT5 sedan, the CT4 is slightly longer and heavier than the ATS. Cadillac says the small car is designed to attract youthful new buyers to the brand.
Two turbocharged 4-cylinder engines are available. The base 2.0-liter mill, which is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, generates 237 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, both of which are down about 13% from the 2019 ATS with a 2.0-liter engine. Cadillac says the CT4’s engine provides improved low-end torque.
The optional 2.7-liter four-banger, mated with a 10-speed automatic, is a detuned version of the CT4-V’s 325-hp engine. In its non-performance guise, the engine makes 309 hp and 348 lb-ft of torque.
Both engines feature cylinder deactivation and automatic stop-start capability. All-wheel drive is optional.
Drivers can choose among four drive modes: tour, sport, snow/ice and track. Cadillac's Super Cruise driver-assistance technology will be added as an option next year. The semi-autonomous system was launched in late 2017 on the flagship CT6 sedan. The feature allows for hands-free driving with adaptive cruise control under certain conditions on divided highways.
