Ford Motor Co. says it will complete construction on the central campus of its revamped technical center in Dearborn, Mich., by the end of 2022.

Ford announced the 10-year, $1 billion overhaul of the tech center, which opened in 1955, more than three years ago. It said then that most of the central campus would be completed by 2023.

The entire complex of interconnected buildings will be finished by 2025—in line with the original timetable, according to the company. The center will initially house some 6,000 staffers but could eventually employ 20,000 people, down from 24,000 originally estimated, according to Ford.

Last year Ford revealed plans to separately spend $740 million to refurbish an 18-story former Detroit train station 15 miles away to become a mobility tech campus. That project is expected to be completed in 2022.
