Ford Motor Co. has opened a $100 million proving ground in Nanjing, China.
The 160-acre complex—Ford’s first such facility in China— features 80 different types of road surfaces, a nearly two-mile-long test track, an emissions testing center and a “creative hub.” Ford says the proving ground will help it accelerate testing and bring new vehicles to market faster in China.
The carmaker already has a research and engineering center in Nanjing. Ford, which sold nearly 1.3 million vehicles in China last year, announced a $755 million partnership with Anhui Zotye Automobile Co. earlier this month to build and sell small electric cars in China.
