Ford Motor Co. and the United Auto Workers union have reached a tentative agreement on a new four-year contract covering some 55,000 hourly workers in the U.S.
The deal would involve Ford investments of more than $6 billion in its U.S. facilities, which would retain or create 8,500 jobs, according to the UAW.
The union says its Ford National Council will review the pact on Friday and decide whether to present it to members for ratification.
Until then, neither side is willing to discuss details publicly. But the agreement is certain to reflect the pattern set by the UAW-General Motors contract approved last Friday regarding pay, benefits and the ability of temporary workers to become full-time employees.
