Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co.’s Lynk & Co brand confirms it will being building its 01 SUV/crossover at the Volvo Cars factory in Ghent, Belgium, next year.

The announcement ends months of speculation about Lynk’s European production plans. Geely owns Volvo Cars and 50% of Lynk, in which Volvo holds a 30% stake.

The 01 (pictured) rides on the same “CMA” platform that carries Volvo’s XC40 small crossover vehicle already assembled in Ghent. Geely produces both models at its factory in Luqiao, China. Lynk plans to add a coupe-like crossover and midsize sedan to its lineup.

Lynk has said it also intends to begin sales in the U.S. next year. The company is weighing the option of eventually producing vehicles at Volvo’s new assembly plant in Ridgeville, S.C. That facility will begin building Volvo S60 sedans later this year and is expected to add a next-generation XC90 crossover in 2021.

Lynk is aimed at young buyers. The company plans to market its vehicles in the West with such innovations as online ordering, owner car-sharing and an option that enables owners to rent out their vehicles.
