Mitsubishi Motors Corp. has dropped Carlos Ghosn from its board, severing his last management tie to the Renault-Nissan alliance he has led since its inception 20 years ago.

MMC joined the alliance in 2017, a year after Nissan Motor Co. acquired a controlling 34% stake in the company. At the time, Ghosn was chairman of all three companies and the alliance itself. He lost those positions late last year after being arrested on suspicion of financial wrongdoing at Nissan.
Ghosn’s term on the board was not up for renewal. MMC shareholders also named Takao Kato to succeed Osamu Masuko as CEO. Masuko will continue as chairman, a position he acquired in December following Ghosn’s arrest.
