U.K.-based specialty builder Ginetta Cars Ltd. has named its upcoming hypercar the Akula (Russian for shark).

The carmaker publicly unveiled the $444,800 speedster this week at the Geneva auto show. Production, which is due to start next year, will be limited to 20-30 units per year.

The vehicle will be powered by a naturally aspirated 6.0-liter V-8 that generates 600 hp and 520 lb-ft of torque. Teamed with a 6-speed sequential transmission, the engine is expected to propel the car to a top speed of 200 mph.

Built on a carbon-fiber monocoque with a carbon-fiber body, the two-seater has a dry weight of just over 2,500 lbs. The Akula also sports a number of design elements that bolster aerodynamics and generate more than 800 lbs of downforce.

Founded in 1958 by the Walklett family, Ginetta has produced several niche cars and operates its own race series. British entrepreneur and former race car driver Lawrence Tomlinson purchased the company in 2005.
