General Motors Co. has agreed to buy 200 megawatts of electricity from wind farms to help power seven factories in Indiana and Ohio.

Terms were not disclosed. But GM says the deal will mean that renewable energy sources will provide 100% of the electricity required by its assembly plants in Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Lordstown, Ohio; plus two casting facilities in each of the two states; and a transmission plant in Toledo, Ohio.

GM will begin tapping the wind power from farms in Ohio and Illinois at the end of next year. The company’s goal is to obtain all its energy needs worldwide from renewable sources by 2050.
