GM to Retire Zeta Platform After 2016?
General Motors Co. could abandon its rear-drive Zeta architecture after the 2016 model year as it shifts to more flexible global platforms, says Leftlane News.
General Motors Co. could abandon its rear-drive Zeta architecture after the 2016 model year as it shifts to more flexible global platforms, says Leftlane News.
Only the Chevrolet Camaro and Australia's Holden Commodore ride on the Zeta platform now. GM plans to use the architecture for its V-8-powered Chevrolet SS sedan due late next year, but Leftlane News says that model could be short-lived.
The next-generation Camaro will probably move to GM's new Alpha platform, which carries the rear-drive/all-wheel-drive Cadillac ATS, according to the online report.
Holden could share that platform too. But President Mike Devereux tells CarSales.com that the Australian unit has made no decisions for the Commodore including whether to retain that name for its next-generation large sedan due after 2016.
Holden has committed to using two of GM's global platforms by then, including the Delta II small-car platform that carries the Chevrolet Cruze. But "Zeta is not a global platform for GM," he tells CarSales.com.
