Honda to End Carmaking in Argentina Next Year

Honda Motor Co. says it will stop making cars in Argentina next year and convert its factory there to a motorcycle plant, Reuters reports.

The company says the shift reflects a global restructuring of its regional supply strategy. Honda currently makes the HR-V small crossover vehicle (pictured) at a factory in Campana, which is located about 50 miles from Buenos Aires.

Honda began making motorcycles in Argentina in 2006. The company opened the $100 million Campana factory, which has annual capacity for 30,000 cars, in 2009. Honda also operates a motorcycle plant in Florencio Varela near Buenos Aires.
