IIHS Names New President
David Harkey has been named the new president for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and its sister organization, the Highway Loss Data Institute.

Harkey will succeed Adrian Lund, who is retiring after serving as IIHS-HLDI president since 2006. The moves are effective Jan. 1.
With more than 30 years of experience in road safety research, Harkey has directed the University of North Carolina’s Highway Safety Research Center since 2006 and collaborated with IIHS on several projects. He previously led the traffic engineering and safety division of Scientex Corp.
Harkey managed more than 40 research projects and authored some 80 articles and research reports at the University of North Carolina. He also has a bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degree in engineering from the university.
