Italy’s Manifattura Automobili Torino (MAT) plans to produce a production version of the Pininfarina-designed 2010 New Lancia Stratos concept car.

MAT will unveil the supercar next month at the Geneva auto show. Limited production will start sometime later at MAT’s facility in Turin.

The concept (pictured) and production car pay homage to the legendary 1970s-era Lancia Stratos rally car. About 500 of those vehicles, which were designed by Bertone, were built between 1973 and 1978. Stratos cars won the World Rally Championship for three straight years in 1974-1976.

Three versions of the car are planned: a GT racer, a rally-inspired Safari version and a street-legal variant.

The New Stratos will be 165 inches long with a 94-inch wheelbase. A carbon fiber construction will keep the car’s dry weight down to 2,750 lbs.

Power will come from a mid-mounted 8-cylinder engine that makes 540 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque.

The Spartan interior features an integrated roll cage and door compartments for driver and passenger helmets.

The 2010 concept vehicle was commissioned by German billionaire Michael Stoschek, who is the chairman of Brose Group. That vehicle was based on a Ferrari 430 Scuderia.

MAT also builds the Apollo Arrow and Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus SCG003S supercars. Last autumn the company signed a deal to produce the 5,000-hp Sixteen supercar for Dubai’s Defining Extreme Vehicles Car Industry LLC.
