LG Innotek Touts Improved LED Tech
LG Group’s Innotek unit says it has developed a high-definition LED technology that can increase light dispersion from 100° to 180° when mounted on daytime running lamps or taillights.
LG Group’s Innotek unit says it has developed a high-definition LED technology that can increase light dispersion from 100° to 180° when mounted on daytime running lamps or taillights.
Dubbed Nexlide-HD, the system teams LED arrays with a thin substrate and a proprietary optical design. The module emits uniform light from five directions, which Innotek claims is an industry first.

Innotek says the system eliminates the need for an inner lens and other components. This allows lamp thickness to be reduced by as much as 70%, according to the supplier.
The flexible substrate can be bent and curved to allow for unique lighting patterns. Innotek says the module also can be cut into thin slices to form complex shapes, such as floral-type designs.
Innotek has 30 patents in South Korea and other markets for the technology. No timeframe was provided for potential commercial applications.
