Geely Automobile Holding Co.’s Lynk & Co. unit has become the first Chinese carmaker to set a track record on Germany’s famed Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit.

Lynk & Co.’s 03 Cyan Concept notched two records with top times for a sedan and for any front-wheel-drive vehicle. The 03 Cyan (pictured) took 7 minutes and 20 seconds to navigate the challenging 12.9-mile course.

The previous fastest lap for a sedan was 7 minutes and 23 seconds, which was set last month by the rear-wheel-drive Jaguar XE SV Project 8. The fwd mark had been held by the new Renault Megane RS Trophy R hatchback at 7 minutes 45 seconds.

Riding on sibling Volvo’s CMA platform, the record-setting concept car is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 521 hp and 372 lb-ft. Lynk says the sedan can sprint from zero to 62 mph in 4.4 seconds on its way to a top speed of 193 mph.

Geely’s Cyan Racing team is working with Lynk to develop the 03 Cyan. The car is based on the recently launched Lynk 03 midsize sedan and the 03 TCR race car that Cyan Racing runs in the World Touring Car series.
