McLaren Automotive Ltd. says its new GT supercar is more practical and comfortable than its other models, yet lighter, faster and more agile than competing grand touring cars.

The carmaker unveiled the all-new performance coupe today. Deliveries will start later this year with pricing starting at $210,000.

Measuring 184 inches long and 82 inches wide, the GT is McLaren’s largest model other than the Speedtail hypercar. The new grand tourer rides on McLaren’s carbon fiber architecture to keep weight under 2,400 lbs, which the carmaker says is 300 lbs lighter than competitors such as the Aston Martin DB11, Bentley Continental GT, Ferrari Portofino and Porsche 911 Turbo S.

Power comes from a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 that generates 612 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. Mated with a 7-speed transmission, the engine propels the GT from zero to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 203 mph.

To bolster ride comfort, the two-seater gets a softer suspension with hydraulic dampers and sensors that can adjust settings in two milliseconds based on upcoming road conditions. The power steering system includes a special setting to improve low-speed maneuvers. Other goodies include increased ground clearance, an integrated rear wing and better insulated engine mounts to reduce NVH.

The mid-engine layout and a redesigned exhaust system allows for 20.1 cu-ft of combined storage space in the trunk and under the hood. The rear compartment can accommodate a fullsize golf bag or two pairs of snow skis, according to McLaren.

Among the interior highlights is a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports the latest HERE navigation and real-time traffic updates. A 12-speaker Bower & Wilkins premium audio system is optional.

The GT’s seats are higher and more thickly padded to improve comfort and support. Customers can choose between various leathers and Alcantara SpA’s high-end microfiber. An industry-first cashmere upholstery will be available later.

An optional electrochromic glass roof panel can be darkened at the press of a button. Other features include ambient lighting and improved rear visibility.
