Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz unit took the wraps off the production version of its all-electric EQV van this week, ahead of the vehicle’s public unveiling at next month’s Frankfurt auto show.

The all-new EV, which will be launched in early 2021, will be marketed under Mercedes EQ electric sub-brand. The carmaker plans to offer 10 EQ models by 2025, starting with the EQC crossover vehicle that bowed earlier this year.

Based on the conventionally powered V-Class midsize van, the EQV will include a long-wheelbase version that can accommodate as many as eight people. Mercedes says the van will target private and commercial applications.

Power comes from an electric motor that generates 204 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque. Top speed is listed at 99 mph.

The 90-kWh lithium-ion battery provides a driving range of 405 km (252 miles) on the European driving cycle. Mercedes says the battery can be replenished to 80% capacity in less than 45 minutes.

The front-end mirrors the EQC with a sealed, large black panel that encompasses the headlamps and grille. The interior is highlighted by a 10-inch MBUX infotainment system that also displays battery status, estimated range and other EV-specific features.

Mercedes will build the EQV alongside the V-Class and Vito vans at its factory in Vitoria, Spain.
