Subaru Corp. confirms it will promote its president, Tomomi Nakamura, to CEO on June 22.
Nakamura, 58, will succeed Yasuyuki Yoshinaga, 64, who has headed the company as CEO since for six years. Yoshinaga will become chairman but reportedly without the right to represent the company.
The change in leadership, which was predicted in March by The Nikkei, comes after Subaru reported that its tampering with fuel economy and emission data at two Japanese assembly plants was broader than initially thought. The issue prompted Subaru to recall more than 417,000 vehicles in Japan last year.
Nakamura formerly was CEO of Subaru’s North American operations. He was named global president of the company in March, assuming that title from Yoshinaga.
