General Motors Co.’s much-anticipated eighth-generation Chevrolet Corvette will debut under the brand’s Stingray nameplate.

The all-new car—and the first Corvette with a mid-engine layout—will be unveiled on Thursday. Production of the 2020 model is due to start this summer.

Chevy first used the Sting Ray name on the second-generation Vette in 1963. The moniker was discontinued in 1976, then revived (as one word) in 2014 with the launch of the seventh-generation model in 2014.

Last year, GM trademarked the name “Zora” in the U.S. and other countries. This caused widespread speculation that the name would be used for the new Vette in tribute to former Corvette chief engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov, who long had pushed for a mid-engine design. Zora could still be used for a high-end Vette in coming years, media reports note.
