Volkswagen AG says it will publicly unveil its all-new Golf small car at a special event in Germany on Oct. 24.

The eighth-generation model originally was to have debuted at last month’s Frankfurt auto show. But VW decided to hold back the Golf’s introduction and use the show to focus on its new ID.3 electric hatchback.

The theme of this month’s event will be “Life Happens with a Golf.” VW has sold more than 35 million units of the popular nameplate since the first-generation model bowed in 1974.

The 2020 Golf will feature evolutionary styling and a fully digital cockpit with large touchscreens. Tech goodies are expected to include a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, lane-keeping assist and vehicle-to-everything telematics capability.
