Volkswagen AG will unveil the redesigned Golf small car sometime this autumn rather than at next month’s Frankfurt auto show.

The carmaker says it wants to focus attention in Frankfurt on the ID.3 compact hatchback. That vehicle is the first of several EVs that will be marketed under the new ID sub-brand.

The eighth-generation Golf will combine evolutionary styling changes with an upgraded interior and new technologies. VW previously has said the vehicle will feature a fully digital cockpit with large touchscreens, a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, lane-keeping assist and vehicle-to-everything telematics capability.

European sales are expected to begin later this year or in early 2020.
