Nissan Motor Co. is giving its GT-R sports car a mid-cycle upgrade that includes new turbochargers and improved handling.

The upgraded twin turbochargers improve the 3.8-liter V-6 engine’s low-end responsiveness and boost efficiency, according to the carmaker. In addition, Nissan says it improved the car’s 6-speed dual-clutch transmission to enable faster shifting when operating in the performance-focused R mode.

Enhancements also have been made to the electronically controlled suspension to provide better cornering stability and a smoother ride. A new brake booster increases the initial braking response by engaging with less pedal stroke, improving stopping power and feel.

Steering is said to be more precise and linear, requiring minimal corrections at high speeds. Other goodies include 20-inch alloy wheels, a titanium exhaust tip and a reconfigured exhaust manifold that Nissan says enables easier service access.
