Nissan Motor Co.’s plans to offer a V-6 engine in future Titan fullsize pickup trucks to better compete against its chief rivals in the segment, according to media reports.
The carmaker confirms the reports but didn’t say when the powertrain would be introduced or provide any information about it. Titan buyers currently can choose between two V-8 engines: a 390-hp 5.6-liter gasoline mill and 5.0-liter Cummins diesel.
The cheapest V-8-powered Titan is a two-wheel-drive long-bed model that starts at about $29,800 in the U.S. By comparison, buyers can save as much as $2,000 by opting for a V-6 engine in a Chevrolet Silverado, Ford F-150 or Dodge Ram pickup.
Nissan offers a 3.5-liter V-6 in the Pathfinder midsize pickup truck and Frontier crossover vehicle. The company also offers a 4.0-liter unit in some versions of its NV van.
