Karim Habib, who has headed design for Nissan Motor Co.’s Infiniti luxury brand, is leaving to pursue “other opportunities,” the company says.

His successor is Taisuke Nakamura, currently design director for global design strategy at Nissan. Nakamura also has been responsible for concept car development.

Habib joined Nissan two years ago from BMW AG, where he had been head of design since June 2012. His departure comes as Infiniti exits the European market to concentrate on China and the U.S. The brand’s headquarters also is moving back to Japan from Hong Kong.

Infiniti President Christian Meunier left the company in May after four months to head the Jeep brand worldwide for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV.
