Racing legend and business tycoon Roger Penske has received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Penske, 82, received the country’s top civilian honor from President Donald Trump late yesterday in the Oval Office. The award is intended for civilian who make “meritorious contributions” to the country.

Penske Corp. operates the Team Penske auto racing empire, which has won more than 500 races, including 18 contests at the Indianapolis 500. The Penske Automotive Group is America’s second-largest auto dealer network, with combined new and used car sales of more than 518,000 vehicles per year.

The group also operates truck rental and leasing operations, a logistics unit, truck component manufacturing businesses and motorsport’s Ilmor Engineering.
