Porsche AG’s has appointed Peter Schafer to become chairman of its Porsche Engineering Group subsidiary on Aug 1.

Schafer (pictured) has served as a managing director of Porsche Engineering since June 2018. He will succeed the retiring Malte Radmann as chairman. Dirk Lappe remains technical managing director of the engineering group.

Schafer joined Porsche in 2003 and headed vehicle engineering and quality management for the carmaker’s development center for several years. He previously worked on chassis development at Ford and Volkswagen.

Based in Weissach, Germany, Porsche Engineering was created in 2001 to provide engineering services to Porsche and other Volkswagen Group companies. The subsidiary also has done work for Harley-Davidson, Lada, Mercedes-Benz and Opel.

In recent years, Porsche Engineering has expanded into software development and contract testing. The company has facilities in China, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy (where it operates the Nardo test track) and Romania.
