Pierburg Develops Multi-Use Coolant Valve

Rheinmetall Automotive AG’s Pierburg GmbH unit says it has developed a cooling valve that can be used in vehicles with a piston engine or fully electric powertrain.
The system features two connections and two switching positions. In conventional models, the valve will control coolant flow to the degas bottle (coolant reservoir/de-aeration system) and to the transmission. The valve also can be used to cool high-voltage batteries in electric vehicles.
Pierburg says it has received an order from an unnamed German carmaker to supply the valve for electric and conventional vehicles. Production is due to start in 2021.
