The carmaker currently offers a turbocharged 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine and a twin-turbo 3.8-liter mill on some 911 models. But until now the company has maintained naturally aspirated powerplants for its high-end GT3 and GT3 RS models.
Sources tell Autocar the 2020-model 911 GT3 due next year will get a heavily revised version of the twin-turbo 3.8-liter engine used in the 911 Turbo. The engine is expected to generate 513 hp in the GT3, which would be a 20-hp bump over the current car's naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter.
