The Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance fell in the first half of 2019 from first to third among the world’s top-selling carmakers.

The alliance delivered a combined 5.21 million cars and trucks in January-June, down 6% from the same period last year. Results were hurt by sales declines of 8% at Nissan, 7% at Renault and 8% at MMC.

Volkswagen Group captured first place, even though its delivery of cars and trucks in the first half slipped 3% to 5.37 million units. Toyota Motor Corp. advanced to second place with sales of 5.31 million vehicles, down 2%.
